What is everyone's obsession with being skinny these days? Not just being healthy but but being skinny. Every day i hear women talk about how they are so fat and need to lose weight and I'm just thinking their crazy. As a curvier girl I don't think it's such a bad thing to have a little junk in the trunk or some meet on your bones. Every girl is mad differently and I don't plan on starving myself to try and become something I'm not. Did you know that if Marilyn Monroe was alive today she would be considered a plus size model? She was the epitome of beauty sixty years ago and is still an icon today. She shows me that curvier women can still be considered sexy and beautiful. this is what I strive for instead of killing my self to become skinnier I should focus more on being healty and and comfortable and confident with the body I have. She was proud of the way that she looked so why can't I be.

Smart Girl at the Party!
Amy Poehler's new show Smart Girl at the Party is such a refreshing change from the all the other T.V. shows aimed at young girls these days. The show focuses on helping young girls with their confidence and self esteem by exploring the talents and expressing their creativity.
The show can help other girls to express themselves in more healthy creative ways rather than in destructive ways. I wish I had these kinds of shows when i was growing up. It teaches girls to just be themselves and not care what other people think and that being unique is a good thing and should be celebrated.
Harrasing Customers
I don't understand how employers are allowing their employees to harass women purchasing birth control or the plan B. pill. The employees at the Walgreen's are getting away with harassing customer for wanting the legal medication. If a person does not believe in using these types of birth control then that is your own business. I'm sorry but I've always had a problem with people forcing their religious beliefs on me. It is unfair for a person not to sell me an item based on their own personal opinion. So for the people at Walgreen's in Oxford, MS please mind your own business and sell me the product I have the right as a woman to take. Thanks.
Back Off!
Last week i attended a seminar about sexual harassment against women. The class explained the different types of sexual harassment and different ways to prevent it. I never realized how many women will just try to ignore sexual harassment because they are not sure of how to deal with it. The main point of the class was to teach us women that if you are being sexually harassed tell someone or even tell the harrasser that what they are doing is unexceptable. There is no reason to raise your voice of get upset just simply explaing that theri behavoir makes me uncomfortablr an I am not going to tand for it. So next time you feel you are being sexually harrassed don't keep your feelings inside it is ok to stand up for yourself and your rights as a woman.

Ewwww!
So I was looking for blog ideas and I went to YouTube and accidentally typed in sexiest commercials instead of sexist commercials. And this is what came up.
I have never seen this commercial on television and i can see why. I don't think i even need to say any thing it explains itself.

Babies Having Babies
At my job in Columbia I have noticed a wierd trend among my female co-workers. All of five of the girls I work with are under 25 and either have a kid or one on the way. Now if a girl wants to have kids that young that is their own decision but I never understood the point in it. Most of these girls talk constantly about going out to bars and strip clubs while their babies are at home sleeping. If a girl wants to have kids when she is that young thats great but I think you should be more responsible and set a good example for them. Girls these days are getting pregnant younger and younger every day. The high school that i went to has 30 girls who are pregnant this year and most of them are not even seniors. Why is this? I heard that when the movie Juno came out young girls were finding it cool to be pregnant in highschool. I just have one question "what is the rush?" these girls a practilly still kids themselves. I know I want to get all of my partying out when I am young so that when I do decide to have kids I can focus all my attention on them. But thats just me.
Pointless Television
Over the holiday weekend i caught up on "me" time and whatched a Bad Girls Club marathon on T.V.. I had never seen the show before and God knows I love my reality shows but as I was watching it I couldn't help but think this show is the most pointless thing on T.V. today. The basic premise is they take seven girls and put them in a house and their only goal is to start as many stupid fights as possible and see how long the girls can take it before the crack. I don't know if it's possible for any good to come from a show like this other than to teach girls how not to act. Every episode the girls are fighting about something, wether it's "you talked crap about my friend"or "you're a stupid slut cause you took my toothbrush". The only thing this show does is reinforce the setreotype that women a crazy and the smallest thing can set them off. My favorite girl on the show would have to be Tanisha. No matter who is arguing in the house Tanisha will barrell in and just start screaming in their face until it eventually gets violent. The Bad Girls Club is great entertainment for most people but sets a terribble for young girls who will learn to think it's cool to yell and scream at other girls when they do something you don't like. Whats worse is some girls have to leave the house because all the other girls ganged up on her and she couldn't take the verbal abuse anymore. As someone who was teased a lot in school I do not support this kind of behavior at all especially if it leads to violence. We need to teach young girls that this is not a cool thing to do.
Britney Spears: For the Record
So I watched the interview about Britney Spears last night and it didn't really change my opinion about her but it did make me think about her in a different way. Seeing how she could not walk down the street because she was getting harassed by all the paparazzi it explained a lot about her actions in the past year. Everyone was joking that she had gone crazy when she was passing out in clubs and shaving her head and maybe she did but who can blame her. I would probably have a nervous brekdown if I was in her shoes. Now I have never been a big fan of her music but when she started doing those wierd things I wasn't suprised. Having been in the spotlight since she was about 10 and not having a day to just be a normal person it can mess you up in the head. Going through a divorce and losing your kids is hard enough to go through without having it all judged by the media. She talked about how every day is the same thing for her and she it gets hard not having a day to herself. Im not saying I'm sorry for her because thats what comes along with being rich and famous but I can understand . I'm really happy for her that rising to the top again. Good for her.

A Woman Candidate, Not A Women's Candidate.
After watching the interview with Sarah Palin and Katie Couric I was really disturbed to hear Palin’s views on abortion. I knew she was pro-life but not to this extreme. She believes that even if a woman is raped she should still carry the baby to term and choose adoption. Palin also suggest “counseling” the woman into making the right decision which would ultimately be choosing life. I don’t understand how a woman can be against another woman having control over her own body and choosing for herself. It does not matter if a woman chooses abortion or not the point is, is that she can choose for herself. McCain has said in an interview that Palin is an asset to his campaign because she is a “counterpart to the liberal feminist agenda”, and this is a good thing? What’s the point of having a female in the white house if she does not support woman’s rights? To be the first female vice-presidential candidate she is certainly not doing a good job of supporting her fellow woman.

The Hills
After Struggling to get through an episode of The Hills I started to realize the just by watching this show I am lowering my I.Q.. This "fake" reality show is really setting a bad example for young women in this society. First and most importantly we have Heidi. who has given up her friendship with long time best friend Lauren to be with her manipulating, unappreciative, asshole of a boyfriend, Spencer. Heidi continues to be with Spencer even after he tells her sister they want her to move out because she erased his Tivo shows. What kind of self- respecting women would still be with a guy that treats your family and friends so horribly? All of the people on this show just drive me crazy. They pretend to have these high profile jobs in fashion but we never see them working without hearing about the latest gossip. I don't know how anyone can believe this show is real life.

Heelarious Baby High Heels
I just watched a video online of a new product for babies called Heelarious. They are squishy high heels for babies 0-6 months old. Not only were these the ugliest shoes for babies i have ever seen but they are also such a stupid idea. Why are we trying to force little girls in to these gender roles at such a young age. So what is the point of having high heels on a baby that is only a month old and all she can do is eat, sleep and poop? I guess it is just another way for parents to dress their kids up for their own amusement of to save people from any confusion about the babies sex. It's like when a mom will dress the baby girl in pink from head to toe or tape a bow to their head so they are not, heaven forbid, mistaken for a boy. Mothers should not be playing dress up with their infants. If you want to put high heels on something buy a Barbie doll.

Transgender Woman on America's Next Top Model
Tyra Banks is raising the bar this year on America's Next Top Model by selecting a transgender woman as a contestant. While I feel that this is a positive thing most of her competitors feel otherwise. During the two hour premier some of the girls were put off by the situation using terms like "he/she" and expressing that "she (Isis) has no place in the competition". I really commend Isis for having the courage to come on T.V. and fight for her dream of becoming a model. The only downside to having a transgender contestant on the show is she has already become a spectacle. Every time she is on camera her "situation" is mentioned instead of her talent as a model. I think can only move our society forward in terms of opening our minds to different things. I'm rooting for you Isis and i hope you go far in the competition.
